•Christmas in Downtown•
Downtown Greenville is already getting in the Christmas mood and I was just in time to see the lights being strung up. I always wondered how they decorate those giant trees and now I know. I bet it was much trickier years ago. Today we can just ride a lift all the way up and around. From where I was standing I saw Holiday Trees on every corner. I enjoyed watching the holiday season come to life. Even though I admit it was chilly, I enjoyed spending the evening photographing the bustle along Main Street.
It was no time at all before the evening drew in the night and I started focusing on getting those long exposures in low light. The festive neon lights made for interesting photography as more and more people came whizzing by. Life is always busy in the city. People rarely take the time to smile or nod your way and the entire world seems to spin just a fraction faster. Even I found it easy to get caught up in the commotion.
Then I noticed a mother stop to let her daughter see the Christmas Tree. The whole world was flying by, but not for everyone. Then I remembered the reason for the season. It isn’t getting gifts or even about having fun. We are supposed to set time aside for giving. It isn’t about the fancy stores, restaurants, and fun activities. Sometimes what matters can’t be bought.
•Merriment at Every Turn•
After spending so much time at One City Plaza I had almost forgotten to check out the rest of the city. Not too far away the United Community Bank had an ice skating rink. Everyone seemed to be having a blast. I was growing colder by the minute just looking at all that ice, but tried to get a few shots to express the atmosphere. I noticed a few kids learning as the teenagers and couples moved effortlessly. Someday I’ll have to be brave enough to give ice skating a try.
As I was leaving I spotted horse trotting down the road and realized that Main Street had even more to offer. Carriage rides are always a popular choice for lovers and families alike. The holiday season has certainly come to Greenville. If you’re looking for something fun to do make sure to check it out. Have a Happy Holiday everyone.
