There’s a first time for everything
In thirty years I had never once stepped foot in Chesterfield County. I think that going new places can be exciting and a lot of fun. Sometimes though It can also be quite frustrating. Without a point of reference, something familiar, it can be very difficult knowing where your adventure should begin. That is why I am so glad that websites like sciway.net are around to help. With a little research, I managed to map out several interesting locations and Woodward Mill was the very first stop.
I enjoy visiting lots of different kinds of places, but old gins and mills might be my absolute favorite. It amazes me how something that was once so vital not long ago is now almost forgotten. It adds a tinge of melancholy to the beautiful scenery. A wistful longing of absent memory perhaps. The world really can pass you by if you aren’t careful.
I was not able to uncover much about the history of Woodward Mill. I know that the folks of Chesterfield would have brought their corn here to have it milled of course. Imagine what it was like seeing wagons full of corn come and go. Who knows how many hundreds of pounds of cornmeal were milled here over the years. Of course, that isn’t all that happened here. This would have also been a place for socializing or swimming. I am sure that many memories were made here.
I had many more places to visit and my time was short. If I had not so much more to see I would have enjoyed just staying here for the entirety of the day. I really do wish I might have learned much more about the lives of those who once came here.
