Belton Standpipe

The Belton Standpipe looks a lot like a combination between a lighthouse and medieval bastion. I don’t think you could find a design for a water tower that is more fascinating. Yep, That is right. This thing is a WATER TOWER!!! What is even crazier is that it wasn’t designed this way merely for aesthetic purposes. Almost every aspect of the design is based on some utility or function the tower serves. Built between 1908-1909 this is an example of water storage facilities using reinforced concrete. The windows of the tower were added only to allow ventilation during construction. No actual stairs even exist inside the tower itself. South Carolina has two other similar structures. Though, I must say this one is by far the best.
